Last year, Xiaomi released the Xiaomi Smart Band 7 Pro, which has a larger screen, built-in GPS, and a new design that makes it easier to change straps. But it’s bigger and heavier than the traditional Mi Band form factor, so I didn’t recommend it to fans of the traditional Mi Band.

Now, Xiaomi has released the new Xiaomi Mi Smart Band 8, which is the same size and has the same screen as the Smart Band 7, but with many of the same features and functions as the Smart Band 7 Pro. So, is the Smart Band 8 worth your money?

Here are some of the key features of the Xiaomi Mi Smart Band 8:

  • More durable metal frame
  • Faster 60 Hz refresh rate
  • Support for more than 150 sports modes, including aerobic boxing
  • New bean pod accessory for tracking running data more accurately
  • Longer battery life

If you’re a fan of the traditional Mi Band form factor and you’re looking for a more affordable fitness tracker than the Smart Band 7 Pro, then the Xiaomi Mi Smart Band 8 is a great option. It has a lot of great features and functions, and it’s comfortable to wear all day long.

Xiaomi Mi Smart Band 8 Global Version Review

The Xiaomi Mi Smart Band 8 Global Version is a significant upgrade over its predecessor, the Mi Band 7.

It has a larger and brighter AMOLED display, a longer battery life, and a more comprehensive suite of health tracking features. It is also more affordable than the Mi Band 7 Pro.

Here are some of the key features of the Mi Smart Band 8 Global Version:

Unboxing

The packaging of the Smart Band 8 is nearly identical to the Smart Band 7, except for some minor changes to the patterns and texture.

The accessories inside the package are also the same, including the band body, a manual, a strap, and a magnetic charging cable.

You can tie your Mi band to your laces to track your stride frequency, length, and even the impact of your foot on the ground when running.

Xiaomi Mi Smart Band 8 Design

The Smart Band 8 is very similar in size to the Smart Band 7, but there are some noticeable differences upon closer inspection.

The first and most important difference is that the Band is no longer completely wrapped around the strap.

 Xiaomi Smart Band 8

It now has a new structure that supports quick removal. Like a traditional watch, you can remove one side of the belt from the Band by pressing the snap and pulling it outwards.

The Smart Band 8 offers various appearances, making it a practical update. Xiaomi has officially launched three straps in different materials for the Band.

They are beautiful and affordable, and we expect to see more straps with varying styles from third-party manufacturers soon.

The Smart Band 8 also has a metal frame, like the Smart Band 7 Pro. The structure is dyed through electroplating, making it look refined and more durable than the previous plastic frame.

Compared to the Band 7, the new Band is half a millimeter thinner, and the sensor area at the bottom is not as prominent, so it offers a more comfortable wearing experience.

Xiaomi Mi Smart Band 8 Screen & Display

The Smart Band 8 features a 1.62-inch AMOLED screen, which is the same size as the previous model, and the bezel remains unchanged in width.

However, thanks to the new powerful processor, it can now drive the screen to a refresh rate of 60 Hz.

Xiaomi Mi Band 8

The Smart Band 7 Pro refresh rate has been greatly enhanced, exceeding the previous 30 Hz rate. This enhancement greatly enhances the overall smoothness of all operations.

The Smart Band 8 also supports an Always-On Display (AOD) feature. Although the brightness of the AOD is still not very high in sunlight, you can set it to turn on after sunset.

The Band also supports automatic brightness adjustment, so you don’t have to worry about the AOD waking you up when you fall asleep.

I’m a big fan of the Xiaomi Mi Smart Band 8’s screen and display. It’s a large, bright AMOLED display that is easy to read even in direct sunlight. The colors are vibrant and the text is sharp.

The display is also very responsive. I’ve never had any problems with it not registering my taps or swipes.

One of my favorite things about the display is the always-on display (AOD) feature. This allows me to see the time and date even when the band is not in use. I find this to be very convenient, as I don’t have to raise my wrist to see the time.

The AOD feature does drain the battery a bit faster, but it’s worth it for me. I can always turn it off if I need to save battery life.

Overall, I’m very happy with the Xiaomi Mi Smart Band 8’s screen and display. It’s a large, bright, and responsive display that is easy to read and use.

Xiaomi Mi Smart Band 8 Features

The Smart Band 8 now supports more than 150 sports modes, the most interesting being aerobic boxing.

It also has a built-in acceleration sensor, making it the world’s lightest sensory gaming device. You can put on your Smart Band 8 and follow the lessons in the Mi Fitness app to swing your fists and burn calories anywhere, anytime.

The Smart Band 8 also has another useful proprietary accessory called the bean pod. You can tie your Mi band to your laces to track your stride frequency, length, and even the impact of your foot on the ground when running.

If you are a runner and want to improve your performance further, you should try following the professional data provided by this personal coach.

In addition to bringing more sports mode support, Xiaomi has introduced four mini-game dials in the dial store. These mini-games are similar to those developed by third-party community enthusiasts for the previous Mi band.

Xiaomi Mi Smart Band 8 Battery Life

Xiaomi claims that the Smart Band 8 can last up to 16 days in typical use, and with the AOD function on, it can still last for about six days. These figures align with what we have come to expect from Xiaomi Mi Bands.

I’ve been using the Xiaomi Mi Smart Band 8 for a week now, and I’m impressed with the battery life. I’m tracking my steps, distance, calories burned, heart rate, and sleep, and I’ve only had to charge the band once. I’ve also been using the always-on display, and I’m still getting over a week of battery life.

I’m very happy with the battery life of the Xiaomi Mi Smart Band 8. It’s one of the best things about the device, and it’s one of the reasons why I keep recommending it to my friends and family.
