Quick answer: Garmin has launched the MARQ (Gen 3). All six editions are live on Garmin.com as of October 13, 2026, priced from $2,500 to $3,100. The big upgrades over the Gen 2 are built-in inReach connectivity over LTE and satellite, a larger 1.4-inch borderless AMOLED display, a real LED flashlight, a speaker and microphone, and up to 18 days of battery life in smartwatch mode.
Four years after the MARQ (Gen 2) arrived in October 2022, the Gen 3 has landed. Earlier this month it was only a listing on Garmin’s Spanish support pages. Now it has full product pages, prices and ship dates. This guide covers what’s new, what each edition costs, and whether it’s worth the money.

The Gen 2 launched at $1,900 to $2,400. The Gen 3 starts $600 higher, so this is a clear price increase.
What’s new in the MARQ Gen 3
All six editions share the same core hardware:
- Display: 1.4-inch borderless AMOLED with a sapphire lens. Garmin calls it the largest on any MARQ so far. The Gen 2 had a 1.2-inch display.
- Case: Grade-5 titanium with a ceramic bezel inlay.
- Battery: Up to 18 days in smartwatch mode. If battery life is your priority, my Enduro 4 launch article covers Garmin’s ultra-endurance option.
- Connectivity: Built-in inReach with LTE and satellite. You can make phone-free voice calls over LTE, send messages, share LiveTrack, check weather, send location check-ins and trigger SOS to the Garmin Response center. The Fenix 9 Pro also offers inReach satellite and LTE in all three sizes. My Fenix 9 size and tier buying guide goes through the platform.
- Flashlight: A fully integrated LED flashlight with microlensing. The Gen 2 only had a screen-based light.
- Buttons: Sealed inductive buttons with tactile feedback.
- Audio: Built-in speaker and microphone for calls (when paired to your phone) and off-grid voice commands.
- Maps: Worldwide preloaded mapping with address search. Outdoor Maps+ lets you store four times as many maps as earlier MARQ watches.
- Software: Garmin Epic, Training Readiness, Endurance Score, Hill Score, running tolerance, Garmin Coach, ECG app, Pulse Ox, Sleep Coach, Garmin Pay, music downloads (Spotify, Deezer, Amazon Music) and more.
- Water rating: 5 ATM. The Diver edition adds a 40-meter dive rating and leakproof metal buttons.
How the six editions differ
- Athlete ($2,500): The entry point of the lineup and the cheapest way in.
- Adventurer ($2,700): Full-grain Italian leather strap, 360-degree compass markings on the bezel and preloaded TopoActive mapping with ClimbPro. It also includes CourseView maps for more than 43,000 golf courses. The Fenix 9 gives you the same platform for much less, and my Fenix 9 vs Fenix 8 comparison explains what changed.
- Golfer ($2,800): Jacquard-woven strap and an 18-hole indicator bezel. It has 43,000+ preloaded courses, Virtual Caddie, PlaysLike distance, green contour data, green reading, putting analysis and aerial imagery.
- Aviator ($3,100), Commander ($3,100) and Diver ($3,100): The premium tier. The Diver is new to the MARQ Gen 3 lineup, and the Commander takes the place of the Gen 2 Captain.
A note on the Golfer: green reading, putting analysis, green contour data and aerial imagery need an active Garmin Golf membership.

Our earlier expectations mostly held. LTE and satellite connectivity, an LED flashlight, a speaker and a microphone were all on the wish list, and all of them arrived.
We could not confirm storage size or whether the watch uses the Fenix 9 platform from Garmin’s pages, so we won’t claim either here.
Important limitations
Garmin is upfront that inReach on the MARQ is not the same as on its dedicated inReach devices:
- An active plan is required for LTE and satellite features.
- LTE coverage is not available in all regions.
- Satellite connection and SOS have important limitations compared to other inReach devices and may be unavailable in some situations.
If you plan to rely on this watch for safety in remote areas, check Garmin’s feature requirements page at Garmin.com/marqfeaturerequirements for your region first.
Should you buy it?
Buy the Gen 3 if you want the titanium, sapphire and luxury finish and you also want a watch that works without your phone. Built-in LTE and satellite messaging is the biggest practical reason to choose it over the Gen 2.
Consider a Gen 2 only if you find a large discount and don’t need connectivity or the bigger screen. At $1,900 for the Athlete, it’s hard to justify a 2022 platform.
Skip the MARQ if all you want is the software. The Fenix line gives you very similar features for less money. You pay extra for materials, design and the special editions.
