Garmin fans, it’s update time again! 🎉 If you’re part of Garmin’s Public Beta Program, version 17.23 is now officially rolling out over the air (OTA) — meaning you don’t need to plug in your watch unless you want to.
This release is for a pretty big lineup:
- Fenix 8 AMOLED – 43mm, 47mm, and 51mm
- Fenix 8 Solar – 47mm and 51mm
- Enduro 3
- Fenix E
- Tactix 8 Solar
- Tactix 8 AMOLED – 47mm and 51mm
And here’s the good news: Garmin says it’s now at 100% rollout, so if you haven’t seen it yet, it should land on your watch within 24–48 hours.
Change log for version 17.23 (changes since v17.22)
This is a “bug-squash” release, so no new flashy features — just solid fixes to keep things smooth:
- Fixed an issue with Activity Stage Page Satellite Settings
- Fixed problems with Emoji keyboards (Zhuyin, Thai, and Japanese)
- Fixed Morning Report showing all-day events on the wrong day
- Fixed Units not updating and spacing in Project Waypoint
- Fixed using buttons to exit the Evening Report
How to Get the Update Right Now
If patience isn’t your strong suit (same here 🙋♂️), you don’t have to wait for your watch to grab it automatically. Just:
- Go to Menu → System → Software Update → Check for Updates
- Tap Install if it’s there
This works even if you’re not in Garmin’s “target rollout percentage” group.
You can also connect via Garmin Express on your computer — but be aware that Express will only auto-offer the update if you’re in that target group.
Otherwise, the manual check on your watch is the way to go.
Quick Reminder: Public Beta Isn’t for Everyone
Before you hit that install button, remember that Beta software is test software. That means:
- You might run into bugs.
- Some features could be temporarily turned off.
For this update specifically, ECG, Dive, and Aviation features are disabled on compatible Fenix 8 models. If you use these regularly, you might want to skip the Beta for now.
If you install it and change your mind, you can “backdate” to the last Live version — but you’ll stay there until the next Public Beta comes out.
What’s New in Garmin Fenix Beta Update 17.23
The changelog from the previous Beta (v17.22) wasn’t detailed in the announcement, but you can expect the usual tweaks and improvements Garmin rolls out in these updates.
After installing, you can confirm the software versions on your watch under Menu > System > About. Here’s what you should see:
- Software Version: 17.23
- GPS Version: 5.05 (Fenix E: 13.00)
- Wireless Version: 28.85 (Fenix E and Enduro 3: 28.27)
- Sensor Hub Version: 34.10
- Touch Screen Version:
- F8 AMOLED: 0.19
- F8 Solar: 3.10
- Enduro 3: 3.10
- Fenix E: 12.21
Should You Install It?
If you like testing new features early and don’t rely on ECG, Dive, or Aviation tools daily, yes — this is a good time to try it. You’ll get the latest fixes and improvements now rather than waiting for the Live release.
If those features are critical for you, or you’re not a fan of potential hiccups, skip this one and stick with Live software until the Beta cycle wraps up.
📌 Final tip: Always sync your data before updating. That way, if something unexpected happens, your workouts and health stats are safe in Garmin Connect.
