Looks like Amazfit is going back to its roots—and I’m not mad about it.
In a surprise twist, a new square-shaped version of the Amazfit Active 2 has just popped up in regulatory filings.
We spotted two model numbers—A2434 and A2440—both tied to something called the Amazfit Active 2 Square. That’s right, after going all-in on the circular design last time, Zepp Health seems ready to bring the square face back.
And honestly? It makes a lot of sense.
So, Why the Square Comeback?
Let’s rewind a bit. The original Amazfit Active had that familiar square body—a look that resonated with anyone coming from an Apple Watch or Fitbit.
Then came the Active 2, with its sleek round build and a more polished vibe. It came in two flavors—Standard and Premium—with little tweaks in materials (hello, sapphire glass and leather straps).
Now, it looks like Amazfit is trying to repackage the same great features into a square shell again.
No official images or launch dates yet, but history tells us that once these regulatory leaks start surfacing, a retail launch usually isn’t far behind.

Not Everyone Likes Round Watches
Let’s be real—some folks just prefer square screens. They’re easier to read, better for glancing at data during workouts, and they give off that Apple Watch vibe without the premium price tag.
Zepp Health seems to know that too. This square Active 2 might be their way of offering the same tech, but in a form factor that appeals to a different kind of user.
Maybe someone who found the round version a bit too small… or just doesn’t want another circular gadget in their life.
Will It Be Just Like the Round Active 2?
That’s what I’m expecting, to be honest. The round Active 2 was one of my favorite Amazfit watches in recent memory—it was lightweight, looked great, and performed surprisingly well for the price.
It ran on Zepp OS 5.0, had offline maps, and voice memos, and even handled GPS and heart rate tracking like a champ.
If the square version shares that same BioTracker PPG 6.0 sensor, solid battery life, and AMOLED screen, we’re in for a treat.
There’s just one potential downside: no mention of NFC so far. The round version supported Zepp Pay (especially useful in Europe), but it looks like Zepp may be leaving that out to keep costs lower on this square model.
If that’s true, it’s a bit of a bummer—but maybe worth the tradeoff for a more budget-friendly price.
Expect a Standard and Premium Version (Again)
While it’s not confirmed yet, I’d bet we’ll see a Standard version with a silicone strap and tempered glass and a Premium variant with leather and possibly better materials. That’s been Zepp’s move in the past, and it worked well.
Oh, and while we’re talking launches—we’re still waiting on the Amazfit Balance 2 to go global, and there’s even a mysterious Balance “XT” model floating around.
So yeah, it looks like Zepp Health has a lot of cooking behind the scenes.
Final Thoughts
This upcoming square version of the Active 2 might not seem groundbreaking—but it’s actually a smart play. Same proven internals, new shape, and broader appeal. If you didn’t vibe with the round Active 2, this could be your moment.
And if Zepp nails the pricing? This square smartwatch could be a sleeper hit for summer 2025.
