How I test, research,
and verify.
I’m Sunil Bhatt, and I run SmartwatchInsight on my own. I don’t have a lab team, so no single method covers 40+ watches across every brand. Instead, every review here is built the same honest way: hands-on testing where I can get one on my wrist, backed by manufacturer data, verified owner reviews, and cross-checked specs where I can’t.

Two kinds of content on this site
I’d rather be upfront about which is which than let every piece read like it was hands-on tested when it wasn’t.
I owned and wore it
Reserved for flagship picks and “Editor’s Pick” reviews. I bought the watch, wore it for at least two weeks, and ran it through the five pillars below myself. These carry a personal score I stand behind from direct experience.
Compiled and cross-checked
Used for broader comparisons, buying guides, and news coverage where I haven’t personally worn every unit. Built from official specs, brand documentation, and patterns across verified owner reviews — cross-checked across multiple independent sources before anything is published.
How I build a “researched & verified” piece
This is the process behind comparisons, buying guides, and any watch I haven’t personally tested.
What I score, hands-on or researched
Whether a watch is hands-on tested or researched and verified, it’s scored across the same five pillars — so ratings stay comparable.
Battery life
Manufacturers quote battery life under ideal conditions. That’s rarely the full story.
GPS & sensor accuracy
Location and heart-rate data are only useful if they’re correct — see this applied in my fall detection accuracy guide.
Build & comfort
A watch that looks great in photos but hurts to wear all day fails here.
Software & app experience
The watch is only half the product — the companion app is the other half.
Value for money
A 9/10 watch at double the price of a 7/10 rival isn’t automatically the better buy.
How scores translate to a verdict
Every review ends with one of four calls. No fence-sitting.
When a watch gets the full hands-on treatment
For flagship picks and “Editor’s Pick” reviews, this is the process on top of the research above.
Editorial independence & affiliate disclosure
No brand pays me for a placement, a higher score, or an “Editor’s Pick” badge on this site. Every rating is based solely on my own hands-on testing or independent research — never on what a brand wants said about it.
Some links on SmartwatchInsight — including in my Deals and Best Picks sections — are affiliate links. If you buy through one, I may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. This never influences which watch I recommend, whether it’s hands-on tested, or how it’s scored.
