If you’ve been eyeing Suunto’s next big release, you won’t have to wait much longer. A major retailer has accidentally jumped the gun, briefly posting a full product listing for the Suunto Race 2 — complete with high-res images, key specs, and even a September 1 launch date.
From what we can see, the Race 2 sticks to the winning formula of the original but fine-tunes almost every detail.
Sleeker, Lighter, and More Refined
The new Race 2 keeps the 49mm case size but shaves thickness down to 12.5mm, making it noticeably slimmer on the wrist. Weight varies by material:
- Composite: 65g
- Stainless Steel: 76g
- Titanium: even lighter, though weight wasn’t confirmed
Two colors have surfaced so far — black and light grey — and the design tweaks are subtle but noticeable.
The buttons and crown layout remain, but the buttons now sit more cleanly into the case. The charging system moves to a snap-in connector, and the rear optical sensor area is more compact.
Display & Outdoor Readability
From the front, the high-contrast AMOLED display is the star of the show. The leak emphasizes visibility in challenging outdoor lighting, but it’s unclear if the display size is bigger than the current 1.43-inch panel.
What’s New Under the Hood
The listing confirms dual-band GPS with multi-satellite support and impressive battery life — up to 50 hours in GPS mode and 12 days in smartwatch mode. Sport mode count climbs to 115+, covering trail running, swimming, cycling, skiing, and more.
New features include:
- ClimbGuidance for elevation tracking
- ZoneSense Recovery for smarter post-workout insights
- Suunto Coach for training guidance
- Ghost Racing for virtual competition
- Voice feedback during workouts (when paired with Suunto Wing headphones)
Navigation staples — compass, weather alerts, sunrise/sunset times, and heatmaps — return, along with hydration reminders and custom data fields.
The heart rate sensor gets a big upgrade thanks to a flatter, next-gen optical module, likely powered by the Ambiq Apollo 510 chip for better accuracy and efficiency.
Pricing & Release Date
According to the leak, the titanium model will cost €599, while the stainless steel version is expected around €499.
That’s about €100 more than the original Race, which can now be found on sale for as low as €299.
The question for buyers will be whether the slimmer build, improved HR sensor, and new recovery tools justify the price jump — especially with offline music still unconfirmed. Given the September 1 date, we won’t have to wait long to find out.
